[Greenbuilding] Solar pre-heat system

PEX (polyethylene crosslinked) tubing is questionable (to me) for a solar
hot water system because of temperatuere and pressure. Copper is probably
the most logical. Stainless would be best in my humble opinion. (Stainless
is used in our Geothermal underground duct for longevity) And Extruded Poly
Styrene is an excellent insulator IF the tubing doesn't get so hot that it
melts. The best wrap for a HOT tube is a woven ceramic fiber cloth blanket
such as in use in place of asbestos for big furnaces and industrial
applications. I don't think you can get it at ACE hardware, so right now,
I'd have to do a google search for a source. Their search site name has been
mentioned so much I think we ought to get a commission ! !

Subject: [Greenbuilding] Solar pre-heat system

All, much as it is vaguely interesting to read the debate between two
listers about the viability of something else, I continue to be interested
in a good response to the question of the best material for moving glycol
from a solar heated panel ultimately to a water heater for the purpose of
preheating water. Additionally, what is the best insulating material for
this tubing? thanks, Sacie
