A few additional thoughts, since I use an IR
thermometer a lot in my own line of work/research:
- one of the things you want to look for is the
distance/spot ratio. A bigger ratio means that
you can be farther away from the object you are taking a reading of.
The cheaper thermometers are around 8:1 to 12:1,
the higher end ones around 30:1
Really expensive ones are around 100:1
I recently found a very nice Raytek with a 50:1
D:S ratio on Amazon for about $250.
Raytek seems to have gotten bought out by Fluke,
as Fluke now has an identical model
for around double the price.
The Masonry Heater Association currently has a
sale on some older Raytek Raynger ST 30's for $126.00 (D:S ratio 12:1)
