[Greenbuilding] Advice on Zero-clearance wood stoves

I have a Regency 1000, with both rear and side radiation shielding. Both
the manual and the sticker on the rear shield piece say close (6")
mounting is allowable, provided the vent pipe is double wall. The pine
panel wall behind the stove and pipe get warm, but not so much that I
can't keep my hand on it. The pipe going thru the ceiling, attic, and
roof are insulated 7" diameter from a previous oil furnace installation.
The pipe from stove to ceiling height is the 6" double wall but
uninsulated. A 6-7" transition piece is single wall, so I mounted a
sleeve piece of 10" single wall pipe under the bottom of the 7" pipe as
a radiation shield. There is a round 24" piece at the ceiling where the
7" pipe disappears, and in the attic there is a metal box that keeps
insulation off the outside of the pipe up there.

It has been my understanding that the BI will approve an installation
done according to vendor instructions regarding clearances.

The purpose of a wood stove is to warm the air in a room, preferrably by
direct contact with the air, while keeping the combustion within the
stove and not on the wall.

36"?! That is huge. stove manufacturer's specs seem to be in the
12-16" range for that dimension.

Although many stoves have optional rear heat shields, I don't remember
seeing any with side heat shields (doesn't mean they don't exist).

I don't know of any zero-clearance wood-stoves, and wouldn't buy it if I
found one. The _purpose_ of a wood-stove is to get hot. It would be
useless if it didn't.

Thank You Kindly,
