Of course, incandescent bulbs are not even on the radar. 

Compact fluorescent lamps average about 50 lumens per watt.  Linear
T-8's and t-5's can achieve 90-104 Lumens per watt - about double.
Maximize the number of high efficiency t-8's (they are available at any
hardware store) and get rid of Compact Fluroescents wherever you can. 17
watt t-5's are smaller, make nice undercabinet lights, or tuck them
above a cabinet for indirect lighting. CFL's are SOOOO 1990's.
