AOBA recognizes that the local real estate industry has a critical responsibility to become more sustainable, since buildings consume 70% of our electricity use, 38% of our carbon dioxide emission and 12% of our potable water use. Working with our national affiliate organizations, BOMA International and the National Apartment Association (NAA), and local business and environmental organizations, AOBA will undertake several green initiatives for 2008.
In the coming months, AOBA will be developing this section of our website, including a list of "green" regulations, by jurisdiction, that impact AOBA members.
Also, on September 25, 2008, AOBA plans to host a conference and exhibit center, focused on how to make existing buildings more sustainable. For more information on plans for the Conference, contact Jeanne Clarke or Marie Tibor at 202-296-3390.
