[Greenbuilding] Virgin Steel

I have worked years in the steel industry as a supplier
and erector, purchased steel direct from US mills and on
some jobs, from European mills. I erected a story job in
the Loop in Chicago where the column sections were too big
for US mills to roll, I had to buy them from TradeARBED in
Europe, float the sections across the Atlantic, through
the St. Lawrence seaway and offload them in Green Bay to
truck to my fabricator in Wisconsin.

We never were concerned about the use of recycled steel,
but about the mill certifications. So long as the mill
certs were appropriate, we had no reason to question the
quality of the steel. To ask for pure pour steel is not
only ridiculous, unnecessary and possibly rare to
impossible to get. I would be surprised to find a
supplier or fabricator who would even acknowledge the
availability of this.
