[Greenbuilding] OT I think (but maybe not)

OT still perhaps but tonight on the taxpayer funded
foreign content containing registered charity
television channel known as TVO (Television Ontario I
think) was a chat group debating the merits of
controlling the population growth of the Province on
the basis of an individuals global carbon footprint.

The main argument was that the would be immigrant
living in the slums of New Delhi was living a more
sustainable life there than if he were to move to
Ontario and "need" a lot of things he/she didnt need
before. And that denial of access to Canada of
immigrants from places like this would be beneficial
to the planets health.

One counter argument was that "we" could not deny an
individuals ambition and assumed consequential
increase in consumption on the basis of him/her not
being born or resident even in a specific part of the
world if in fact the "problem" is global in nature.

This bears out for me the probability of a looming
energy cost shock that for many might bring about
the thought that in older age it might be better for
a number of reasons to live in the foothills of the
Himalayas or Cairo or even Australia than say in
Illinois or Quebec. Even if just for Winter perhaps.
You could of course ride a Norton 650 to Costa Rica
though. Or a stripped down Goggomobil Dart.
