Dry compost has a heating value of about 10K Btu/lb, like dry wood. In a
big box under ideal conditions (50% moisture, 15% O2, 130 F, 25:1 C/N
ratio), it can decompose at 15%/day, with lots of leftover heat in the
form of warm moist air. The box might have a humidity and oxygen sensors
and controls and a condensing air-air heat exchanger to remove heat from
the compost air.
