I've been practicing these techniques for a while. Without one of those newfangled instant feedback gas mileage gauges, I have to rely on the ol' calculator at the gas pump to tell me if I am doing better. Setting the cruise control at 60MPH, using neutral to coast to a stop, and trying to get free downhill rides are my best tricks so far. It isn't safe to zoom up to 60 then cost down to 15mph on a real highway, so I haven't tried that trick yet. Apparently that is the trick that really gets a mileage boost but where would you use it?
