Why not?  They are available for around $20.  Using them is simply a 
matter of listening.  They click whenever they receive a particle.  
Move around your house listening to the tick, tick, tick.  If you find 
a place that buzzes, that has high levels of radioactivity (try the 
microwave, or smoke detectors).  I am sure the instructions that come 
with them should clear up any questions you might have.

I too would feel funny about sending a full truck back.  But if you 
make your concerns known to the cement supplier, and tell them you will 
be checking (or even offer to make the check at their place), you might 
avoid that.
