Go ahead and do it. The first chunk of the single-sentence
BuildingGreen mission statement says, "to facilitate transformation
of the North American building industry"... and getting info where
it's needed is the first step in facilitating transformation. That
said, I totally get and appreciate that respect thing you're talking
about. The amount of research that goes into everything around here
still kinda freaks me out, and the people doing that deep research
somehow have to be supported. There's this change-the-world mission
and this need-to-eat reality that constantly tug on each other.
They do get justifiably irked when stuff is plagiarized;
attribution is the proper thing to do in any situation, no matter the source.
In my recent posts I've been trying to quote the vital info
when it's from behind the paywall, and just supply a link when the
article (or whatever) is free to the public (like those three feature
stories about water, the toilet feature, all the product section
intros...). FWIW, here's a guide to free content of the type that's
normally behind the paywall - but it doesn't include content that's
always free, so it's a little misleading in that respect.

That thing John did here recently is a good use of that
little "email" icon on the upper right of each page. He wrote:
