[Greenbuilding] follow up about attic insulation

hey--

just wanted to follow up with a little information I have learned 
lately.  my sister and I did what we could for the moment with the 
parental attic that was so disarranged by the remodeling 
electrician(s).  turns out the contractor is no longer using him because 
he apparently has a drug problem.  not too surprised based on what we 
saw.  though the other, apparently sober, electricians who have been up 
there over the years were just as bad with the insulation even if they 
were competent with the wiring.  anyway, we are waiting for a good 
electrician to look over the scary wiring before blowing in more 
insulation, but my parents heating bill has already dropped so much they 
got way ahead on their budget plan and dropped it, at least for now.  
also the kitchen closet is no longer a drafty icebox.  and that was just 
from sealing the top of the stairs and replacing 6-8" of fiberglass over 
4 areas probably totally not much more than 100sqft.  just think what is 
going to happen when we get the R value up to where it aught to be.  
realistically what will happen is they will turn the house into a sauna 
because they are used to the furnace and the gas fireplace running a 
certain amount and they will turn up the thermostats until that happens 
anyway, o well, at least it will be a well insulated sauna :}
