A Pellet Stove is quite close to a "Continuously fed T-LUD". One could make
a case that it was a Thin Bed Updraft Gasifier (TBUG). How would you
differentiate between a "Continuously fed T-LUD? and a TBUG?
One could probably make a TBUG system that performed reasonably well as a
continuously fed T-LUD with a free flowing feed such as pellets simply by
having an annular fuel bin and a "fuel feeding ring/space" at the level of
the top of the fuel bed, and below the secondary air inlets. As the fuel
burned down, more fuel would flow in by gravity to keep the bed height at a
constant level. However, there might be practical problems because of the
height and diameter of the fuel bin. Also, there would have to be positive
means of preventing the fire from invading the fuel bin after the stove was
turned off.
I indeed look forward with great interest to see how you propose to make
your continuously fed T-LUD, when you are able to release further
information.
Best wishes, and thanks for your many positive and helpful contributions to
the Stove List.
Best wishes,
Kevin
