Hugh and all,

The Stoves List Serve has some notable participation by a few in the UK. But
zero from the university and other group(s) that you mentioned. To not have
even one person who is active in those places at least monitoring the Stoves
list and occassionally sending a message or progress report is a real
shortcoming of the entire community that is working on the Stoves issues.

It is not just those in the UK, but everywhere. The Asian efforts are
not seen
by many others. I was so pleasantly surprised by the work in India (as
represented by Dr. Mukunda at the ARECOP meeting). I now send key messages to
the ARECOP list because I have had about a dozen personal replies to my recent
messages from ARECOP List-readers who are not involved with the Stoves List
Serve.

The China info (that I promise to report soon, sorry for the delay) has also
been lacking. German/GTZ stove activity is strong, but we do occassionally
hear of it via Peter Scott and some others.

Maybe our "chatter" on Stoves List Serve is lacking something to get more
participation. (or maybe so much chatter that others are unwilling to
read the
messages.) Maybe people do not want to share, or maybe they lack the
confidence
that what they have is good.

About a month or so ago I suggested that there be a central listing of events,
but no agency stepped forward to maintain such a list, and I think it is too
much to expect a private individual to do it and maintain it. Thankfully we
have Tom Miles and Erin and repp.org to maintain the Stoves Internet
presence. We would be at such a great loss without their help.

How do we get more of info and updates from others who are seriously
working on
stoves issues? What is wrong? What is missing? Do they not know of our
Stoves communications?

We do not need everyone to be signed up, but certainly every focal point of
stove activity should have at least a "lurker" plus an occassional comment or
report so we know they exist and are getting the messages (filtered by
whomever
does the reading of this list.) How much duplication of efforts and/or
feelings
of isolation exist that better communications could not improve?

I think this message does not quite qualify as a "rant", but more of a
"plea" to
get the communications flowing better.
