Paul,
The information and connections have been there. You probably just haven't
looked at it. Many stoves activites have been reported and linked regularly
through the stoves list, website and linked networks. We have a community of
stove-related networks. It is the responsibility of the individual to find
what they are interested in. Information is distributed through
Bioenergylists/REPP, HEDON, Sparknet, PCIA, Practical Action/ITDG, ETHOS,
Journeytoforever, etc. GTZ activities are reported extensively in Boiling
Point (Practical Action) and by many individuals. These organizations all
have very good websites. Liz Bates, Erin Boyd, Elisa Derby, Karabi Dutta and
the ARECOP secretariat do an excellent job of keeping us informed. We just
have to read their publications.
Since we changed the Stoves site in April we have been carrying links to the
newletters for PCIA, HEDON, ARECOP and Practical Action at the tab called
"Events" http://bioenergylists.org/en/taxonomy/term/354 We also redistribute
their newsletters, or links to them, regularly on the stoves list.
As a list participant it is in your interest to invite a "missing" group or
individual directly.
Several universities around the world are active in stoves development
through varous organizations.
Engineers Without Borders lists the following (* active) stoves related
activities:
http://www.ewb-uk.org/node/594
Briquetting of biomass for a fuel (past)
Smokeless stove development for high-altitude areas *
Stove development for low altitude areas *
EWB UK has apparently developed an "Eco-stove" that they are testing with
the Women in Action Council of the Baglung district in Nepal
http://www.ewb-uk.org/node/618
An EWB-UK power point presentation on 2006 summer placement
http://www.ewb-uk.org/system/files?file=2006%20Placements%20Presentation.ppt
shows pictures of an "eco-stove" in Nepal and a "smokeless mud stove" in
Northern Ecuador. They are also working with Sunseed Desert Technology in
Almeria, southern Spain on a clay thermal mass stove. The work in ecuador
has apparently been done with RedR www.redr.org
Information on stove activities at the Royal Academy of Engineering or
University of Nottingham would be welcome.
