Stovers,
Tom Reed's message (below) declares the first anounced contestant in the Kirk
Smith Cat Pee Award (KSCPA) competition of Stove Camp 2006.
A second contestant will be the "Juntos B" T-LUD gasifier that is described in
detail on pages 5 - 8 in:
http://bioenergylists.org/stovesdoc/Anderson/GasifierLAMNET.pdf
In the emissions testing, I will operate that stove to see if it can match or
improve upon the clean burning of the WoodGas CampStove that provided the
dimensions for the Juntos B gasifier. Then, what about the cost
comparisons? Do we have a "Prince and Pauper" situation? Just
comparing those two "sister
stoves" would test the judging concerning the issues that Kevin raised in his
earlier message.
Because the "Juntos B" is so easy to make, I want to encourage others who are
coming to Stove Camp to make one (or an improved version) and test it. And to
encourage that, I make the following offer:
__IF__ another Junto B or other style of force-air T-LUD stove is entered and
__IF__ the maker/operator has that stove perform reasonably close to
what I can
do with my Juntos B stove, and __IF__ my Juntos B is the declared
winner, then I
will take 50% of the prize money and distribute it appropriately among
those who
had such stoves perform well. But if the other person's T-LUD wins, I do NOT
have any claim to those winnings. At the camp I will show those operators
everything I know about making the T-LUDs perform well, and I truly hope those
T-LUDs are better than mine. So, follow the directions in the above mentioned
website, make changes if you wish (especially on costs and functions),
and have
a shot at winning $500 or sharing in $250 or just having fun and
experience but
no cash.
WARNING: Paul Anderson expects to have an additional type of small gasifier
with forced-air (and continuous fuel feed) as an entry in the competition. I
will compete one of my stoves against another one. (And I will learn much by
seeing the quantitative measurement results and hearing the discussions, even
if neither one is the winner.)
When I am in China from 17 July to 4 August at a gasifier stove workshop by
ARECOP, I will search for other stoves that might be able to compete for the
KSCPA and will try to bring them back to the Stove Camp.
"Let the games begin!!" :-))
