[Stoves] [Gasification] Steam injected into flame

Stovers and GasL friends,

A distinctive feature of many of the gasifier models of Mr. Hao in Kunming,
China, is the injection of a tiny spray of steam into the process. I have not
yet seen it work, but the pictures of his flames are impressive.

His brochure and posters discuss "gasifiers and quasi-gasifiers". The quasi
ones seem to be something like Crispin's Vesto stove, but the lateral holes are
much smaller in the Chinese unit. (grate is at the bottom, control of primary
and secondary air, bottom ignition, mainly sticks and loose biomass = easy flow
of air and gases).

The steam comes from a small metal box that is inserted into the side of the
vertical chamber about half way up. When the box is into the flame, the water
in the box can go to steam and exit via 3 small small holes (pin prick size)
that face into the vertical chamber. (yes, there is also a nice, spring loaded
safety outlet.)

Turbulance will result. H2O vapor will be into the stream of gases and flame.
There is no indication that the fuel is extremely dry, so assume typical
sun-dried fuel with some moisture content.

Does the "water gas reaction" (is that the correct name?) going to come into
play? What are the gains of injecting the steam?

For the record, Mr. Hao has patents on his technology. And he seem truly open
to possible improvements.

Paul
