Hi,

I am new to this list and am interested in rocket stoves for use in drying
Kava, here in Fiji.

I am looking at ways to make ceramic doughnuts using local materials.

The island I live on, Taveuni, is volcanic so we have supply of scoria,
pumice(rare), and coral sand of various grades. We need to source clay from
another island since we have none here.

We came to consider wether or not coral sand would decompose on firing and
produce the air spaces. I suspect that it would but thought I would write
to see if anyone monitoring this list has any comment.

I also want to use coral for insulation of the elbow too and hope that it
does decompose and can be replaced with fresh from time to time. The
heated/burtnt coral becomes slaked lime I think, so could be useful in
agriculture. Not sure of the chemistry.

Any comments appreciated
