A while back, I played with altering a MIDGE with a hardware cloth  
cone in the center.   The idea was that the hot wire would help to  
push the ignition of the CO.

Trouble was, the wire weakened pretty fast.

I thought for a while that a platinum wire cone would work better,  
but of course shelved the idea since I can't afford platinum wire !

So if we treat this as a "flame holder" situation, what's the best  
bet for keeping the CO hot enough to autoignite?   Other than  
Platinum...


Other options would be a pilot light -- not satisfactory, but off-the- 
shelf components save time.   Then a spark igniter comes to mind.

I suppose an automotive ignition coil could be converted for this,  
but you'd need a sacrificial (replaceable) spark gap.

What about designing a stove to use a spark plug?   If CO were to  
build up, re-ignite it.   How much voltage would you need for that?
