There is a guy in Ireland claiming a world wide patent on the process.
People are building 'coral' reefs with old cars hooked together and fed by
solar panels. In Dominica you can buy a wire dolphin coated with linestone
produced by villagers in the same way.

The technique was used many years ago (undermining any patent applications)
for encasing pipes that flowed into the sea from sewage treatment works.
They would put a steel pipe into the water and hook DC power to it to ward
off rust and it coated the pipes in a layer of precipitated calcium
carbonate (limestone). Eventually the artificial coral became the pipe.

At the World Summit for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) held in
Barbados in 1994 a presentation was made on this showing the afforementioned
reefs and dikes. The guy showed me an extremely hard piece that was
slow-grown and gave me a small chunk. It has a chicken wire core and is the
density of marble.

You can make stove components using sea water and electricity, and lots of
other things I suppose. If you use a higher power (more current, not
voltage) it builds rapidly and lighter in mass. This is insulative, however
it will not take very high temperatures, in the same way cement products are
not very durable at high heat. It is OK for lower temperature parts.

If you live on an island without clay or cement, it is one method of making
strong 3-D objects using solar electric power only.

Crispin
