Dear List,
I am sure chimneys vs. hoods have been discussed before, but does hoods
offer advantages over chimneys in peri-urban and urban environments?
Chimneys are now being omitted from the latest RDP homes (low cost homes
built along acceptable building codes), due to the homes being built in
"emission free zones" meaning that the occupants are not allowed to make
open fires in or outside their dwellings. Probably around 50% of these home
owners cannot afford transitional modern fuels (up to and including
electricity) and wood + mined coal (more predominant) fires are still being
made inside them. Could a hood incorporated into the RDP design offer
advantages over chimneys by function and/or ease of insertion or are they
one and the same? Particulates could be "removed" on its way out of the
home??
