I think cardboard is basically wood with just some of the lignin
content dissolved out, as lignin has a higher calorific value than the
other components of wood then it follows that the cv of the cardboard
would be slightly less.
I was surprised that you had no success with a roll of corrugated
cardboard in tlud mode, I did this a number of times in a charcoal
lighter and it seemed to work fine. On seeing your comments I intended
to have another experiment but my wife recycles all the cardboard and
I cannot find any! It is used to make refuse derived fuel for power
stations in UK.

As a p.s. I've just tried it again and the burn remained clean just
like other tlud experiments until the flame reached the bottom of the
stack and it became a conventional updraught fire. Because of poor
rolling and air control the pyrolysis front was not as even as with
wood chip but otherwise everything was much the same with char being
formed. The corrugations made it plain top see that the evolution of
offgas was enough to counter the convection currents as offgas could
be seen at the bottom of the roll from very early on.
