[Stoves] About threads and Subjects of messages

Andrew and all,
I will reveal more of my ignorance by saying that I only know about the
"Subject" line. I thought that is what was followed as the "thread". My
computer allowed me to "show all headers" and what I saw was not something I
could interpret as headers or threads or subjects of the current or previous
messages.
So many questions about what to do. One question: If I change the
Subject line
in any way, does that break the thread?
