Dear Frank
I certainly agree with your perception of the complexity of stoves. It is a
REALLY hard subject to grasp well. One of the problems facing the stove
implementation programmes is that there is a lot of misunderstanding and
misinformation 'out there' accumulated over the years by people trying hard
in a relatively new field.
Given that the scientific community is never really in total agreement on
anything, you can imagine how difficult it is to tease out from uncontrolled
oxidation of multiple fuels what is really happening and how to make it
better and accessible.
I have a 5x5 Rubic's Cube and it can be sorted out - it's not that hard. I
find it easier than building a really good stove!
There are billions of combinations of things that can be wrong! So, here at
Stoves we try to assist people who are new to the field, argue about ideas
that are 'wrong', bounce ideas off people who have an alternative
perspective and in general develop a lot of respect for anyone who can come
up with a workable idea.
There is no need to be an 'implementer'. We rely on armchair critics and
backyard inventors as much as the literate and the Lettered. Through the
clash of our differing opinions we find the spark of truth. The trick is to
catch it as it blows by!
Best regards
Crispin
