but misses the point as to which part of the biomass the remaining
char actually originated from. AD Karve has given us an insight that
char from paper (taken to be nearer to cellulose than wood) yields 30%
at a temperature where we would expect wood to yield nearer to 45% of
the dry matter. In fact I have seen a graph from research by Beall et
al in 1974 that quite plainly does show the that lignin contributes
most then hemicellulose and the char from cellulose is under 10% of
the initial weight of cellulose by 600C.
