[Stoves] clay mortar versus cement mortar in stoves

Hi Crispin
This is a very sound approach to set a production cost target and work
backwards with the materials. We absolutely have to make stoves affordable
and resilient if we are going to reach the masses. Too often we are aiming
for advanced technology and the stove is not saleable to a large market.
Simplicity in construction is also highly desirable.

Dear David
Esperanza is the name of the Tea Estate that has agreed to build the stoves
in the workers' houses. They have quite a low budget and they did not want
a portable stove.
With an upper limit of $10 installed, it was felt that a basic stove with
options could fit the bill. The possibility of a metal skirt remains open
as the $5 cost leaves some room for metal. It is the extraordinarily low
cost of local bricks that makes it possible (less than 1 cent US$ each). We
will be introducing a new concept in heat transfer efficiency as soon as
possible. The combination may outperform some well known improved stoves.
There is enough budget left to think about putting in a metal grate to allow
a slightly higher fuel loading than a Rocket Stove which will lower the
attention demand on the cook.
I like the fact that the entrance channel is strong enough to use as a wood
breaking tool.
Regards
Crispin
