Dear Stovers,
I doubt the veracity of the claim that Jatropha oil is used in India in
kerosene stoves. We tried to use vegetable oils in wick stoves normally used
in India with kerosene. The trials failed, because the vegetable oils are
too thick and viscous. Therefore, vegetable oils cannot climb up the wick as
kerosene does. In my childhood days, we used to have kerosene stoves that
had a circular wick, that was fed by a tank kept at a level slightly higher
than the burner. The flow of kerosene to the wick was controlled by means of
a manually operated valve. They worked very well, but were costlier than the
capillary fed wick stoves and therefore they slowly vanished from the
market. If anybody has such a stove lying in the attic, it may work with
vegetable oils.
Yours

"http://www.saipetro.com/"http://www.saipetro.com/ I understood that using
jatropha oil in kerosene burners is common practise in India. On this site
you can see something like a Feuerhand lamp and also a stove, that I think
is a Butterfly stove by Lea Hin Group from Singapore HYPERLINK
