Dear Tom,
So sorry that the book with your stove in it (which does tremendously well)
is taking so long to be printed. We have an update on progress today and
hopefully soon you will have a very comprehensive comparison of 18 stoves
with all data, dimensions, etc.
All Best,
Dean

Dear Dean and Nordica:
Congratulations on your (first?) stove research paper, at
http://www.bioenergylists.org/en/apro3stove07
I have printed it out for closer study, but have some general questions and
comments and hope that you will be writing a more comprehensive paper after
further testing. This paper will give you and other stove designers a lot
to think about for the future of natural draft wood cookstove design.

Cross sectional diagrams of each stove setup would be useful in helping
those not present in understanding the results. While you mention the
"Three Stone Fire" several times, I wasn't sure whether you simulated it in
the 5 liter Rocket shown in the figure or set one up separately.
You have filtered the results through the wonders of spreadsheet graphing
and your own perceptions of the most important variables. I hope if you
continue the research that you will include a table of the raw data so that
each reader can draw these and other conclusions of their own.

I am fond of saying that while understanding the secrets of the atom from
zero to Hiroshima took < 50 years, we have learned more about biomass
stoves in the last 50 years than the previous 50,000 years, and we still
have a lot more to learn as we are weaned from the fossil fuel tit. It's
unfortunate that we put such a high priority on killing people and so low a
priority on feeding them.
Again, congratuations on a fascinating first glimpse at comparative stove
research.
Yours truly,
TOM REED BEF
PS: Loved the logo at the top of the paper. Is that a "Rotegrity Sphere"?
Can you give us a short history.

Dear Stovers,
Nordica and I tested and compared four stoves: the Sunken Pot Institutional
Rocket, A Sunken Pot Household version, a single pot Rocket with and without
skirt and the Three Stone Fire. The report is posted at:
http://www.bioenergylists.org/en/apro3stove07
The sunken pot stoves were generally more successful even compared to a
Rocket with a skirt.
We hope you enjoy the paper,
Dean and Nordica
