Frank,
I have read your messages and the extra notes with photos and comments by
Crispin. Unless I am reading things incorrectly, it seems that you are trying
to make a bottom-lit updraft burner in a very small glass container.
I like all types of experimentation, and I wish you luck. But if you
are trying
to replicate any of the woodgas stoves that stem from Tom Reed's TLUD
technology, you are off track.
In the TLUDs, the fire is not at the bottom.
In the TLUDs, the secondary air is not injected into the basically closed fuel
container. The secondary air is either forced (in the fan versions) into an
open-top area so that the flames rise upward uninhibitied. In the natural
draft versions, the secondary air is drawn in by the drafting of a chimney and
there is free mixing.
If you can see the smoke, the volatiles in the hot gases are already
condensing
(cooling) and dropping out of the possibilities of combusting even when oxygen
and spark are present.
For TLUD basics, please see Anderson and Reed (2004) "Gasification of
Biomass..." (LAMNET Conf in Chile), found on the Bioenergylist.org website.
