Paul,

There was (is?) a kerosene(paraffin) water heater built in South Africa
called the Geyser 2000.  They also built a smaller propane version.  I
have not been able to get much detail on it as there is not much on the
internet about it other than some basic dimensions and output numbers. 
Crispin may be able to supply more information.

If it works with kerosene and propane, you could probably adapt it to
work with a TLUD or other gasifier.
