[Stoves] Coal burning in downdraft BURNERS (not gasifiers.)

Crispin,
You have explained that it is not a gasifier. That explains much about
what you
describe, including 6 minutes to get the fire stabilized at startup.
Sure, burners can be downdraft. But your description of how you ignite
it has a
fairly tall pile of fuel and ignition on the top. Perhaps the fire
gets to the
bottom and stays there while additional fuel comes onto the top of the fuel
pile. But that is not clear yet to me.
Great comment on the need for about 5 kW thermal for the yurts. That would
match well with my variation of updraft gasifier with continuous feed (of
biomass, not of coal).
