[Stoves] The other side of airpollution

Dear Kevin
"On the one hand, the preface "a little pollution is better than a lot of
pollution" can simply be an excuse to continue supplying poorly designed
stove systems. On the other hand, if there is a "pollution threshold below
which health hazards are minimal, then any stove venting inside but not
exceeding these levels would be quite acceptable, and would represent the
most cost effective solution."
Dose of reality time....
The number of commercial products that meet _any_ anticipated air quality
targets is nearly zero. We talk a lot about what should be done but the
standards for IAQ and the delivery systems, the personnel who have any idea
what they are doing in the field of business development in Third World
countries (which is required to make viable manufacturing possible) are
extremely limited. This is early days.
I feel we need targets, and thank goodness the funding is becoming available
to develop and manufacture the technolgies. But we are a _long_ way from
being able to deliver efficient stoves and clean air to billions of people.
Some patience is required on all fronts, while frenzied activity continues
to explore solutions.
Regards
Crispin
