[Stoves] World's biggest gasifier?

Hello to everyone on the list, I have been lurking but have
finally subscribed.

I thought the following news item might be of interest, it
is a grain silo in rural Australia, and is currently on
fire.

Emergency services are pumping in nitrogen, apparently
hoping to starve the fire and prevent a grain dust
explosion. 

Sounds like a gasiifier to me, and I would have thought
cooling the reaction zone with water or similar would be
simpler than using nitrogen.
