Yes I think the gas flow could be kept high enough to keep it all
turbulent, this should mean all the stove bodies would be heated
uniformly. The price is still that the flue gas leaves at the
temperature of the stove bodies and with it goes all that sensible
heat.

Yes, I suggested the initial heating by the wood  and then sealing the
flue and placing a fan at the inlet. I think the fan could be made of
insulating board, aluminium silicate? Then a similar board could form
some muffles, as are used in an electric fan oven to direct the flow.
