Just a proposal coming in my mind, when reading the discussion:
How about calling the process of driving out gas out of wood or other
biomass by heat:
Pyro-transformation (of wood or whatever to pyrolize). This expression
points to the positive product, the base of terra preta (as mentioned by Ron
Larson under other topic).
And as abbreviation (to remind better as abbreviation and to sound a little
bit more complicated =) pytraf?
The product can be called pytraf-carbon. The positive effect of that
expression is, not to use the all-in-mouth-and-ear-expression eco- or bio-
And the meaning is declared by the procedure and not by the used
primary-stuff, which will/must (!) certainly be different.
Possibly you get a better idea stimulated by reading this.
