Crispin,

I not "cookstove" then what words do 100% of the 2 people in your office
think are appropriate? "Cooking stove" or some other term?

Dear Friends

Asking someone in my office if they knew what the work 'cookstove' means,
drew a blank. So in a survey of 2 people, 100% think that the American word

'cookstove' might be inappropriate.

People in Africa do seem to understand 'cooking stove' automatically without

an explanation that cookstove means a stove on which cooking is done.

Now a 'crookstove' is one that is 'not the right one' (no kidding, I am
quoting here...) and which does not perform the way it was advertised. It
is the unfortunate experience of many people that they buy a cooking stove
only to find that it is actually a crookstove.

We don't need a billion crookstoves hitting the market so perhaps we should
be really careful with what we promote!

As the humourist quipped while donating blood...."I do this in a jocular
vein."

Regards
Crispin
