Dear Adam
I agree that the charcoal situation can be imnproved a lot. As far as
I see, it is the forestry people who are responsible for improved
charcoal programmes and I have not seen much success from any forestry
programme that was aimed at the public.
For example, tree planting in general for woodlots is amazing for its
lack of success in Africa. I am wondering if it is a 'vision thing'
or a management issue or what....
Perhaps the production unit needs to be demonstrated to a wider
audience, getting the producers to buy into the idea, even if it takes
financing to get them 'out there'.
The producers have a very big interest in getting better technology
into their operations. Clealy there is a communication break
somewhere.
Regards
Crispin
