Dear Dr.Yury,
i just browsed your homepage mentioned below and I also
checked our correspondence from February 2006
but i could not find any discussions on the efficiency!

1) Concerning the efficiency of about %40:
In Kenya on Testrun No2 we used 690kg lelesha wood, deducted
15% Humidity = 97kg (humidity might have been more) and we come
to 595kg of oven dry wood
and we received 205Kg of charcoal. This gives a yield of about 35%.

in the case of India/ Pondicherry TestrunNo3:
640kg wet wood loaded, 20%water deducted = 512kg oven dry wood.
(work wood tree)
Charcoal received = 238kg, This gives a yield of about 46%.
----------------------------------
2) I do not offer these low-cost retort kiln as "non-polluting".
i offer them as "more environmentally friendly" compared to
traditional carbonization!
And i mention that the company "Four seasons" found out that
retorts do contribiute with an enormous reduction of smoke
released into the atmosphere:
"....On average the reduction of pollution with a retort is 75% less
smoke than round steel kilns....."
http://www.fourseasonsfuel.co.uk/retorts.htm
-------------------------------
I also want to mention that these metal retorts which might have
double or less volume that the "low-cost retort" (3m3) are sold
for about 23.000 EURO, plus 17% VAT, plus transport !!!
A trained bricklayer can build one unit of "the low-cost retort"
for about 300Euro in countries with low-labor costs.........

This in short
