Dear Warren, other fellow listers, and all of our friends and
colleagues ccy'd above,

We just returned from Uganda ( and Tanzania) recently on an intensive
three week training assignment in both places. Perhaps you can
connect with the Project in Mbale as it is not too far (east/ south
east) from Gulu.

The group we worked with in Mbale Uganda was the Uganda Gender
Rights Foundation It was locally coordinated by the Eco Ventures
organisation which was funded in turn by the McKnight foundation. Our
lead trainer is our colleague Gilbert Okure, based in Kampala. Those
interested can contact us or either of the mentioned parties for
further information.

For those interested in their own Briquette projects in Uganda, we
look fwd to the UGRFs provision of training services there. The
press (of the hand operated/ locally made batch-fed compound lever
"mini Bryant" variety) was made in Mbale. Our more recent innovation
for preparing materials, the Thresher Masher Chopper device was built
in Kampala by JBT engineering. The lead trainers for that project was
the long known and active husband and wife team, Francis and Mary
Kavita of Kenya.

As similar training was also completed in the district of Lushoto (up
in the Usambaras of the as yet, fantastic and largely tourist-
undiscovered) Tanzania. The report has just been submitted and needs
to be reviewed and edited by the concerned organisations there before
we could freely pass out similar contact information for your direct
communication, if desired. That report should be processed within the
coming three weeks.

Suffice it to say, that the training assignment was very fruitful
thanks to our Ugandan and Kenyan and Tanzanian partners and lead
trainers who were engaged for this project. We have made lots of new
and likely permanent friends in the process and wish them all the
success in now expanding the technology in these nations and remain
available to both backstop and learn from them, as they gain
experience in local adaptation of it.

Sisi na shikuru sana, kwa wote,

Richard & Joyce Stanley
