I found some interesting references regarding lard lamps. Prior to the
age of kerosene, oil from plants and animals was used. The technology
reached its peak in the mid 1800's then quickly disappeared with the
coming of kerosene. The lard lamps were developed as a response to the
rising price of whale oil.

Robert Cornelius, of Philadelphia, patented a Solar lard lamp (not solar
powered), US3028, and a more simple lard lamp, US3030. Also look at
US13674, a Solar lamp improvement by J.G. Webb.

Perhaps this "old" technology could be utilized for your plant oil
stoves and lamps?
