[Stoves] More compliments and Questions for Dr. Reddy

Greetings.

Congratulations to Sai Bhaskar for his good stove work!!!! It is always a
pleasure to see other people's efforts with stove designs, especially the TLUD
units. Sorry for being so slow in making comments, but I have a daughter
getting married on Saturday, so I have a valid excuse to be delayed!

I could answer some of Ron's or Crispin's questions, but we should hear
Saibhaskar's responses.

Because I spent two half-days with Sai Bhaskar in Hyderabad after the PCIA
meeting, I have seen his stoves (but not the newest with the two
burners). Nicely made, and quite true to the principles and designs of
the TLUDs,
especially Reed's Woodgas Campstove. Apart from being much lower in cost and
having the fan mounted on the outside, the operations and performance can be
closely equated to those of Reed's Campstove.

From my own work with my Juntos B fan-driven TLUD, I can relate to
many aspects
of Sai Bhaskar's work. That also means that I raise additional
questions. For
example, in the "Magh - I" stove blogsite (and quoted in the Magh - 2
blogsite),
he writes:
"The efficiency of the stove is 5 to 10 times more as compared to the
traditional biomass stoves i.e., with just 10% to 20% of biomass used in
traditional stoves."
As much as I would like this to be true for his and other TLUDs, I
think this is
an overstatement. That is the same as saying an 80% or 90% savings on
fuel. There are some other stoves (a rocket stove in Africa, if I
remember correctly)
that claim 70% reduction in wood used in a fairly large stove. We need some
quantitative measurements here, with a note that such comparative measurements
relate as much to whatever traditional stove is used in the comparison.

I also note with interest that he has two TLUD units/fuel-containers in
a single
stove structure (the computer cabinate is a nice touch not seem
before). There
is no attempt to direct the air to one or the other of the fuel
containers, nor
with any control to favor the primary air versus the secondary air. Many
options are possible.

I await the further comments from Dr. Reddy.

Paul
