[Stoves] making Charcoal for biochar at home

Dear Niels:

If you take a barrel of wood chips (<15% moisture), make a few holes in
the bottom for air entry, and light it ON TOP, it will first make a
little charcoal, then that charcoal will move down through the remainer,
converting it to combustible gas and about 20% charcoal.

The same should be true if you fill the barrel with small logs and light
ON TOP. You may have to supply a pilot flame at the top to make sure
the gases stay lit (or add a wind shield with holes to allow in
combustion air, but not blow out the flame.)

If you try this, please take a few pictures and send to me...

Yours truly,

Dr. Thomas Reed
