We worked it out for the Philippines in this report so it might prove useful
for you. We assumed 3170 MJ of delivered heat was required for each cooking
system (which we based on actual LPG and wood consumption and assumed
efficiencies and energy contents). We assumed various efficiencies and
energy contents to estimate fuel consumption by cooking system to make
comparisons. Actually most households use a mix but we presented scenarios
for dedicated users. The figures are in chapter 2 and in the table appendix
2.3 (page 179 of this report). If the link doesn't work, just go to our on
line library and scroll down to the Philippines section and pull up the
report "Strategies for enhancing biomass energy use in the Philippines". We
also have similar estimates in some other reports on our web site if you
browse through them.

Hi Tom,
How should housewives or those who cook for a family look at fuels?
How about NGOs working in refugee camps or camps where victims of disasters
might be temporarily relocated?
In urban areas in developing countries cook food for customers, some use LPG
others use charcoal.
What is the energy math for comparing charcoal and LPG or wood vs charcoal
vs LPG?
Thanks for sharing your wide and deep experience.
All the best.
Cornelio
