For long URLs, you might want to consider tinyurl or enclosing them 
in angle brackets.

Eaxmples:

TinyURL: http://tinyurl.com/yvouno

Angle brackets: 
<http://www.reap-canada.com/online_library/Reports%20and%20Newsletters/International%20Development/7%20Strategies%20for.pdf>

Listserv.repp.org and Yahoo! groups appear to wrap long URLs, making 
them unusable.
