[Stoves] cross-section-geometry of stove pipes?

Dear all,

 

Has the cross-section-geometry of a stove-pipe any influence for the
transport capacity, if the cross-section- has the same amount?

-I am aware that other than circle geometry will have a bigger surface in
comparison with the cross-section. And so radiation-heat-loss is bigger.-

 

I think it could be a difference caused by the bigger contact-surface and
the loss of vortex-forming.

Is there a real difference and possibly a rule of thumb, to compare
different shapes?
