[Stoves] stoves in schools and carbon finance

Dear Pamela,
Welcome.
I have a complaint and a possible solution.
We chose in Cambodia a low-cost low-tech model, easy to deploy in the
countryside and easy for people to maintain by themselves.
Well, the downside of this approach is the (relatively) high training and
quality assurance/control costs (mostly transport to shuttle builders and
technicians around).
WFP's budget was not enough to cover all.
A Carbon buyer was very keen to support this project: he saved the day
bringing in a 20% cofunding (even though we had only very rough calculations
and the PDD is still not final).
Lesson learnt: this type of project is most appealing to CSR Carbon buyers.
This source of funds is unlikely to cover equipment costs, but at least some
of the essential preparation and "after sales" services.
It can be worth looking at it when scaling up programs.
We'd like to find a grant to finalize the PDD, turn it into a simplified
model template that others could use elsewhere, and train anybody interested
to tap this source of funds.
This peculiar topic moved to the "Special Interest Group on stoves and
Carbon finance" managed by HEDON (www.hedon.info). Many of us are on both
lists. I hope we can continue there.
