Thank you.  I looked up your references and checked out a few more. 
Terra preta is intriguing, but I think it best to hold off for now as it
adds unnecessary complication to the project at this time.

While googling the subject, I came across an interesting article:

It reminded me of a book I read twenty years ago: Sacha Runa, Ethnicity
and Adaptation of Ecuadorian Jungle Quichua.  By Norman Whitten.
