Hi Paul,

Interesting concept this "product definition." In my experience, present and
prospective users help "define" the product as much as the producers to the
extent that consumers can have a say or some choices.

In rural areas, many may not even really care to change. But there are some
who care because they are adequately informed about the merits or benefits
of certain devices. To some, the improvements/benefits may not turn out to
be sufficiently adequate.

But for some, like the African women who walked miles for the "bricks"
rocket stoves they saw enough benefits that came with a very simple easily
replicable design.

Until then, "product definition" is pretty much done by producers,
designers, and scientists according to their interests, capabilities or
limitations.

My 2 cents worth.
