Dear Frank

The practical use of your attempts to calculate the mass of fuel burned is
the testing of heavy and fixed stoves like brick institutional stoves.

You don't need to measure the velocity of the gases, you only need to get a
gas sample from the stove rather than a hood above it. That gives you the
total carbon and the excess air diluting it.  The rest is Gr 6 math.
Determining the velocity accurately is far more difficult than taking your
gas sample from the stove instead of the hood.
