Dear Crispin
To categorize such a pit stove even further, when it was in firing mode....
If a small fire was started and more fuel was put on it, would it be a
BLTD ( Bottom Lit Top Draft), a BLDD (Bottom Lit Down Draft ) or a BLUD
)Bottom Lit Up Draft? Perhaps a better way would be to designate it as a
BLDDUE (Bottom Lit Down Draft Up Exhaust)?
If all the wood fuel was put in the hole, and the top of the wood was
lit, would it be a TLTD (Top Lit Top Draft), a TLDD (Top Lit Down Draft)
or a TLUD (Top Lit Up Draft)? Similarly, perhaps a better designation
would be a TLDDUE (Top Lit Down Draft Up Exhaust)?
The Term "TLUD" seems rather imprecise, in that it does not distinguish
between a a stove system that has combustion air flowing down to the
reaction zone or up to the reaction zone. A more accurate descriptor
would be a TLUDUE (Top Lit Up Draft Up Exhaust) stove.
The term gasifier is redundant in that all solid fuels employ a
gasification process. All solid fuel stoves are gasifier stoves.
The 6 letter descriptor makes it possible to clearly distinguish between
a pit fire and an "under fuel aired top lit up draft up exhaust" stove
such as Tom Reed's "Wood Gas Stove".
BTW... I think you have a typo.... should be "AN-RHC"
Best Wishes,
Kevin
